Limp Bizkit and Creed trade barbs at KROCK show (june 26 2000)
Most of the time, summer radio festivals bring a full
slate of rock's movers and shakers together for
some fun and good vibes under the sun...
And then there was the 2000 edition of the KROCK
Dysfunctional Family Picnic.
The New York rock radio outlet saw its annual
concert turn into a veritable dis-fest last Friday, as
Limp Bizkit and Creed traded barbs during their
sets.
The bands shared a bill with Stone Temple Pilots,
Ozzy Osbourne, Deftones, Godsmack, Sevendust,
and others, and Limp ruffled some feathers before
even taking the stage by showing up at the event an hour late.
While thanking the fans for coming out, Stone
Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland said, "You
guys are the ones that take the day off from work,
you guys are the ones who spend the money on
the tickets, you guys are the ones who drive
around here from all these states from within the
vicinity, and you know what? It ain't f***in' cool to
keep people waiting for an hour for a f***ing show,
no matter what."
A spokesman for Interscope
Records told MTV News that
there was confusion over Limp's
set time, but things got even
weirder when Durst launched into
a rant against Creed frontman
Scott Stapp onstage.
"I want to dedicate this next
song to the lead singer of Creed.... That guy is
an egomaniac," Durst told the crowd. "He's a
f***ing punk, and he's backstage right now
acting like f***ing Michael Jackson. F*** that
motherf***er, and f*** you too....
And if you want, there's going to be a booth with
pillows and blankets for when Creed comes on."
Stapp himself seemed to address the comment
(and the band's critics in general) during Creed's
set, saying, "It takes a lot more guts to say
something to somebody than from behind their
backs."
During an appearance on Monday's edition of "Total
Request Live," Durst said that after the set, Creed's
camp presented him with an "anger management
manual" autographed with a spiritual dedication.
Creed responds to Limp Bizkit comments (june 27 2000)
After hearing Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst tee
off on them on stage and on television, the Florida
modern rockers of Creed have responded, calling
Durst's behavior at a recent concert "immature and egotistical."
As we reported on Monday, things got strange at
last weekend's KROCK Dysfunctional Family
Picnic outside of New York when Limp's set got off
to a late start. Durst proceeded to call Creed singer
Scott Stapp an "egomaniac" and "a f***ing punk"
Durst then furthered his rant against
Stapp on MTV's "Total Request Live" on Monday.
Creed's camp responded to the situation on
Tuesday, issuing a statement (alleged to be from
the entire band) that reads, "We are extremely
disappointed that Fred Durst has taken his
personal feelings toward us public, considering we
have never met or spoken to him. We are more
disappointed that Fred is manipulating the media
and the truth by using Creed as a scapegoat for his
own immature and egotistical actions."
Creed goes on to charge that Limp went on late
because Durst was disappointed with his band's
placement on the KROCK bill (the band was
scheduled to play before Stone Temple Pilots,
Ozzy Osbourne, and Creed). "He then refused to
go on stage causing management from KROCK,
Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and Ozzy Osbourne
to spend nearly an hour trying to figure out how to
get Limp Bizkit to take the stage. Fred finally
agreed to play only after he 'finished his dinner,'
having accomplished his obvious goal of delaying
his set."
Limp Bizkit's record label, Interscope Records, has
said that Limp arrived late at the venue (and
therefore late for its set) because of confusion over
the band's set time.
Limp responds to Creed comments (june 29 2000)
The back and forth between Creed and Limp Bizkit
continues as Limp frontman Fred Durst has once
again sounded off after Creed called the singer's
behavior at a recent concert "immature and
egotistical."
As we previously reported, Limp took the stage at
Friday's KROCK Dysfunctional Family Picnic
outside of New York late, and then proceeded to
call Creed singer Scott Stapp an "egomaniac" and
"a f***ing punk" (see "Limp, Creed Trade Barbs At KROCK Show").
Durst slammed the singer further during a visit to
MTV's "Total Request Live" on Monday, and Creed
then responded on Tuesday charging that "Fred is
manipulating the media and the truth by using
Creed as a scapegoat for his own immature and
egotistical actions." Specifically, the band claimed
that Durst was disappointed with his band's
placement on the KROCK bill, and as a result he
and the band refused to go on stage on time (see
"Creed Responds To Limp Bizkit Comments").
Now Durst has shot back in a statement that
hardly backs off of his initial comments about
Stapp. "What I said about Creed I meant," Durst
reiterated in a statement issued late Tuesday. "The
starting time of our New York show had nothing to
do with my comments. I bet some fans who have
tried to meet them would agree [with me]. I don't
ever care about what other people in the business
say. Our fans know what we're about and that's all
that matters to me."
